Chapter 2: Facing the Unknown

While I am no closer to knowing whence I came, I feel more connected with this land than before…

My recent travels across Elwynn Forest have brought me face to face with several familiar foes. The beasts of the forest continue to impede villager activity in the region. However, these beasts are much stronger and deadlier than those found in Northshire. They engage without provocation, as if proximity alone is a threat to their existence. I will continue to monitor their movements as I travel to keep both myself and others safe.

Although I have continued the fight against these known beasts, I have found that they are not the only cause for concern. I discovered a new threat which has already left its mark on Elwynn. Two guards, investigating this threat under the order of Guard Thomas, were mercilessly slaughtered by the aquatic creatures known as murlocs. These swift, gurgling amphibians have taken hold of various waterways in the region. I was able to recover the remains of both guards, but not without significant risk. The murlocs attacked me in large numbers. Without my attunement to frost magic allowing for my escape, I would not have survived their continuous onslaught.

These experiences have led me to believe that my survival here remains in question. With every new spell I learn and as my magical powers grow, it seems that the foes I face grow equally in strength. At times, it feels as if I am unable to overcome the challenges set out before me.

Yet, I am not without hope. In the midst of fighting against these dark forces, I have helped numerous villagers tackle problems both large and small. I have returned a “missing” family heirloom which was previously stolen. A young couple now has an opportunity to find love even though their families continue to feud. A pumpkin patch is now free of its porcine invader. Collectively, these actions build goodwill with those around me, and have allowed me to see there is a continued purpose for me here.

As the sun sets on my time in Elwynn Forest, I know it has been time well spent and will continue to hold deep meaning for me. I will soon venture forth to see the great human stronghold of Stormwind, and the land of Westfall after. May these travels be as fruitful as those which have come before.
