Chapter 1: The Awakening

I may not know how I got here, but I now know I have a purpose…

A few days ago, I woke up in a field just outside of a stone-faced, red-roofed abbey I later learned is called Northshire. I felt weak, unable to stand, and what I can only describe as nearing my final expiration. While on patrol, a local soldier, Deputy Willem, and several of his footmen found me, brought me into the abbey, fed me, and allowed me to recover my strength. They extended a kindness to this unknown traveler I otherwise would not have expected, given the many challenges I would later learn those in this community face.

Within a day of my arrival at the abbey, the local mage trainer, Khelden Bremen, detected that I was attuned to the magical world in a way your average villager is not, and in a way I did not know was possible. I have no memory of how I arrived at this abbey or my existence before this time, so my magical journey is truly a great unknown. Khelden provided me with training in the arcane arts, and I am now able to wield the powers of fire and frost, albeit only at their most basic level. My newfound powers attracted the interest of both Deputy Willem and his commanding officer, Marshall McBride. They swiftly enlisted me in addressing a series of urgent matters facing the abbey’s local residents.

Although there are a handful of soldiers left in the area to keep the peace, the majority of the army is away fighting battles on other fronts. This has left the village vulnerable to a variety of savage beasts, irascible creatures, and bands of thieves who inhabit the area. On orders from Marshall McBride, I hunted wolves in the forest, eliminated a kobold infestation of the local mine, and removed gang members from the Defias Brotherhood who had overtaken a local vineyard. Through these experiences, I have felt my magical attunement growing. While I may not yet have a full understanding of the extent of my powers, one thing is certain: Northshire is not the only village in need of help, and I can use my magical capabilities for the betterment of those around me.

With this in mind, I ventured through Elwynn Forest on my journey to the village of Goldshire, where I am currently writing from my room in the local inn. Here, I have already found the kobold threat more deadly and concerning than before. I have also entwined myself in the needs and doings of the local residents. This is only the beginning of my journey, but I already feel in my heart of hearts that this will take me to lands beyond this forest and throughout the world of Azeroth. Perhaps through this journey I will rediscover who I am, from where I have come, and what fate has in store for me.
